Happy Hour at FIG Santa Monica

FIG Santa Monica

101 Wilshire Blvd - Santa Monica, CA

There is no greater hour than Happy Hour.  To many, it is a great way to unwind after a long day of work, bond with coworkers outside of the office, or catch up with friends over a refreshing beer or cocktail.  However, if you're like me and if you've found the right place, Happy Hour is an opportunity to score great deals on shareable eats and crafty drinks to kick start your evening.

FIG Santa Monica is a Happy Hour heaven.  This restaurant nestled right in the Fairmont Miramar Hotel features a "FIG @ Five" daily happy hour from 5-6pm.  Daily? That's right, FIG's happy hour even includes weekends.  For those like me who also like to plan ahead, FIG also takes reservations.

My Happy Hour crew and I arrived for our 5pm Saturday reservation and were immediately welcomed a casual yet modern Mediterranean-inspired space.  Floor-to-ceiling glass windows bordered the indoor dining space and the patio, filling the inside of the restaurant with an abundance of natural light.  Fresh greens and lights hung from the high ceilings complemented the marble tabletops and black and white tiles to complete the refreshing, bright, and airy atmosphere.

FIG's Happy Hour is expansive, offering 50% off in almost every single category of their dinner menu.  All shareables, salads, wood-fired dishes, and select entrees are 50% off.  Most importantly, their entire drink menu is 50% off.  Yes, that includes FIG's list of signature craft cocktails, beers, and glasses and full bottles of wine.

FIG is heavily Mediterranean-influenced, utilizing wood-fired ovens and grills to bring out elegant dishes with bold flavors of the Mediterranean region. FIG also uses locally-sourced ingredients from California to offer freshness in every served plate.  With this in mind, we ordered the Wood-Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Charred Octopus, Wood Smoked Manila Clams, and the "Bread Balloon" with an Eggplant Salad to complement the bread.

The Brussels Sprouts had tastes of sweetness from the maui onions and bacon, balanced with a zaatar blend to complete the dish with a savory yet aromatic fragrance.  The Charred Octopus had a smokey flavorful exterior with the most tender interior, with hints of heat and zest from the pickled onions and fresno chilies.  My personal favorite Manila Clams was lightly flavored with a pepper relish that added slight heat and sweetness. The clams made perfect bites to eat with FIG's unique "Bread Balloon," which is an airy pita-like bread that has risen in the wood-fired oven.

Overall, FIG is the perfect happy hour spot to enjoy the remaining daylight,  share simple yet decadent dishes, and sip away on drinks to start a  perfect summer evening.

Cheers,

Patrick
